In modern contexts, where software development teams must adapt quickly to change, the use of agile frameworks with combinations such as<strong> <a change;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More success<\/strong> thanks to more focused efforts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faster delivery times;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Faster detection of problems and defects;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Optimized development processes<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A lighter\/less complicated structure;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Excellent project control<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Greater attention to specific customer needs;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased collaboration frequency and feedback.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a name=\"disadvantages\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The disadvantages of Agile<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As with any other methodology, even the <strong>Agile approach<\/strong> is not suitable for any project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agile may require careful evaluation before being applied. It is therefore recommended to do an <strong>adequate analysis in order to identify the best methodology to apply<\/strong> in every situation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Agile may not work as expected, for example, if a client is not clear about the goals, if the project manager or the team has no experience or if they do not &#8220;work well&#8221; under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the <strong>Agile methodology<\/strong> has less formal and more flexible processes, it may not always be easily included into larger and more traditional organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here, in fact, <strong>processes, policies or teams could be rigid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Agile methodology is also difficult to implement when clients follow <strong>rigid processes or methods<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, given that this methodology focuses mainly on the short term, the risk that the<strong> long-term vision<\/strong> will be lost does exist.<br><a name=\"agile\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The sixth edition of the PmBok and the Agile methodology<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point it is appropriate to make some small considerations according to the fact that the PmBok, ie the bible of Project Manager, is mainly based on the <strong>so-called &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/waterfall-methodology-what-it-is-and-what-it-is-for\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Waterfall<\/a>&#8221; approach<\/strong> &#8211; which explains a <strong>sequential development in phases, in the life cycle of the project.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In some of these phases, the PmBok contemplates possible application of an Agile approach, provided that this is in line with the goals of the project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The advantages of the Waterfall approach<\/strong> are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Defined, agreed and formalized requirements;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Possible defects or risks are already assessed in the<strong> initial phases of the project<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Detailed and punctual documentation;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Due to the detailed project documentation, even non-expert colleagues can <strong>manage the project<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, the disadvantages of this approach are the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Analysis and planning activities<\/strong> can take a long time and thus delay the actual launch of the project;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The requirements, as soon as they are formalized, can only be modified through another process, which \u2013 again &#8211; takes time;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>During <strong>project development,<\/strong> new needs or new tools may arise that can require more flexibility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Agile methodology focuses mostly on <strong>optimizing the process<\/strong>. <strong>(Read more about this topic<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/waterfall-vs-agile-which-methodology-to-choose-for-project-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Waterfall vs Agile: which methodology to choose for project management?<\/strong><\/a><strong>)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"630\" height=\"552\" src=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology-630x552.jpg\" alt=\"agile methodology\" class=\"wp-image-10101\" srcset=\"https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology-630x552.jpg 630w, https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology-1130x989.jpg 1130w, https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology-1500x1313.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology-705x617.jpg 705w, https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology-450x394.jpg 450w, https:\/\/twproject.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/agile-methodology.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 709px) 85vw, (max-width: 909px) 67vw, (max-width: 984px) 61vw, (max-width: 1362px) 45vw, 600px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The PmBok, and therefore the <strong>Waterfall method<\/strong>, focuse more on <strong>managing goals and risks<\/strong> and on f<strong>orecasting and controlling costs.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An <strong>Agile approach<\/strong> works at its best in situations that have a relatively high level of uncertainty, where <strong>creativity and innovation in order to find the appropriate solution<\/strong> are more important than predictability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A very simple and clear example is the research for a cure for cancer.
